Titanic memorial painting

The Titanic disaster happened 100 years ago this april. This painting is a memorial to the lost souls of the sinking and a metaphor for the follies of man. If only they had a crowd of people on the bow of the ship looking out for danger, they could of avoided disaster.

Halifax 2012 3x6ft, acrylic on wood panel

Halifax 2012 is based on a photograph taken by the famous Halifax photographer Chris Reardon, who hung out the side of a helicopter to capture this scene. Then the image was run through my head, eyes and hands and we came up with this brilliant monster. If a work of art reflects the artist, then it appears I have not grown up as I try to knead childlike cartooning, N.S. folk art Fauvism and Pop into a golden warm, sweet smelling image loaf of our town by the sea..

Retro show 2009 at Nscad and 1976 first city painting

This here is a 3x4ft oil painting created in grade 13 art class at Jarvis CI in Toronto in 1978. it was my homage to my hometown. Little did I know that this landscape theme of horizontal bands of color and shape would follow me through the rest of my career, not to mention the harbour...

Halifax 2012 looking south

This is the beginning stages of a large 3x6ft concave painting on a concave wood panel. The goal is to build this masterpiece and sell it to the Halifax international airport to hang on the arrival wall and show folks what's in store for them in Halifax. Stay tuned to enjoy the process, I know I do.

This is what 40 hours of painting looks like. I am trying to decide if the scene is too busy and colorful and therefore childlike and not mature and worth thousands..

it appears this painting is finished, another in a 50 year series of Halifax.

2012 Family SOS charity auction

The two paintings raised $4800.00 for Family SOS, amen sister!

up on stage prepping the sale.

Tonight at Cunard center, Summer On Springarden and still life with flowers are going on the charity auction block for a good cause. They are both auctioned live and on stage infront of hundreds. I must admit this makes me uncomfortable but also excited, like watching your children at an art recital. What will the night bring?

stay tuned for more......
What a night, we all three stood on stage and made the people laugh a bit and spend alot to help Family SOS help out kids and families of HRM. My income to charitable donation ratio is edging closer to Bill Gates territory and thats the meaning of art. period.
